As stated on the home page, the Corn Hill Arts Festival July 11-12 in Rochester, New York went wonderfully! It was a great 2 days, and I got loads of experience selling stuff...incluuudding the Not Alone book! I have about 15 more copies left on hand, so if you want one, they are $10 plus $2.50 shipping. You can pick that up in the store, and posters too! Read my post about the event here. Second, I got into the Roswell Park graduate program in Buffalo, NY! Whoo! I'm so excited to start there this Fall. I'll be going for my Masters in Interdisciplinary Biology, though I hope to focus a lot on Immunology. It's a cancer research school. Not only will I be going for a higher degree, but I'll also be immersed in research I would enjoy, that would hopefully, make a difference! The best of both worlds! SQUEE.
Originally this file was another partial transparency, but hot damn! It was over 1MB! So back to jpegs we go. A lot of this dialogue is not present in the novel version of this chapter, but rather it is explained indirectly. Here, I have Ehranah directly explaining it, because, let's face it, I'm STILL going to get questions about WTH is going on here. When I write, I have the bad habit of writing for myself, meaning, someone who readily fills in the blanks. If I saw this page without any of the beginning dialogue--the coalescing rope, glowing blue, Talon's signature color--I would immediately put two and two together. Ehranah is in Talon's mind. The rope does not exist, but it's representative of something. In pulling it backwards (to a L->R reader), something shifts, revealing a scene that happened earlier. Therefore, the rope represents time, and pulling it represents moving in time. Tadaa? Maybe I just watch way too many sci-fi movies, but that's how I think.
Some people may ask why the memory in the final scene is first, grayscale, and second, not from Talon's perspective. Doing it grayscale was a conscious choice on my part to differentiate further the present Ehranah from the past Ehranah and/or scenes from the past playing out. As for the 3rd person, it's my experience that when people recollect events, it's most often in an "out-of-body" way, looking on. We construct ourselves in the environment we remember, rather than seeing that memory through our eyes. Talon is no different.
