Yeah, yeah, sorry about the past 5 or 6 weeks of Tuesday updates. I don't know if I'll be able to do a Monday update next week, but I managed to work ahead this week. I even managed to sketch next week's page already, and you can vote to see it!
I'll be attending a small comic convention in my new "home town" of Buffalo, NY this coming Sunday, the 25th of October! I'll have prints, my last Not Alone books, posters and original sketches (on real paper! That's tough for THIS digital artist!), not to mention my ultra-cool self. You can find more information about, as well as directions to, this convention right here.
Next! I wanted to thank some new forum members for the recent up-tic in activity! Activity in the forum is very motivational for webcomic creators. If no one wants to talk or comment on things, well, that is translated as "no one cares and my comic sucks." YES, I know that is often mis-translated from "Oh I like it well enough I'm just a quiet person." :) Anyways, for those of you who take the plunge and join the forum (or now, the new Facebook fan page!) you get to see pages early, page previews without voting, and all the production materials for my next 2 comics coming out. I say that because...I just went and posted some new stuff.
Perhaps it's just the migraine I've been having for days, but I was inspired to draw head pain in this page! These two are having the headache of the century after what just happened. In the last panel, Ehranah is holding her face as I have been known to hold mine. Where the fingers press seems to relieve the pressure somehow. Sinuses, nerves, etc.
I really like how Vrin came out in that first panel. I've been drawing a lot of "jaw-drop surprise" lately. It's fun! As for Talon coughing, it's when sick people STOP coughing that you need to worry about them choking and dying. It's an improvement from not breathing at all, and also shows their reflexes are intact. That's good at least! In the next page, we learn if he can still speak. Ooooh, I wonder what that means!
Finally, it's a bit of switcheroo with Ehranah and Ravar's tempers there, isn't it? I'm fond of Ehranah's lines the rest of this chapter. She can be quite scathing, especially when she's probably most definitely right.
Is anyone else here as excited as I am for the Machida match this weekend? This guy is my favorite fighter of all time. I come from a Karate background myself, and he's using it the way it's supposed to be used. I hate closed Karate systems that only teach you to fight your own style. What's the point of that? It's pure foolishness! I'll be watching this fight back in Rochester the night before the convention before driving BACK to Buffalo that same night to make it to Buffalo Comic Con on time. What fun. I hate not getting a full night's sleep!
Today I also meet with one of my professors about doing some research in his lab. I love the guy's lectures (not only is he extremely entertaining and engaging, he also gives a damn, which is more than I can say about some other lecturers...arrgghh) but I have no idea if I'm cut out for research. I HAVE to do it to graduate...and dammit, I do what I have to do, I just hope I can LIKE it, y'know? I found labs to be the most boring waste of time as an undergrad. Completely pedantic. It was so much easier to do the work if it was for someone I respected though. I find I can like an activity for someone else's sake pretty easily...if I like or respect that person.
Ah, the travails of grad school. Still looking for a job too! I wish we had 36-hour days. That would make things so much easier for me.Yarr. Peace out, peeps. See you on the other side.
