Request an article or tutorial

Posted March 8th, 2009 by KEZ

Hey guys! Within this past week three people have asked me about tutorials. Since I hate how most tutorials are organized myself, I never look at them, but I think that also sets me up to MAKE one I think would be more helpful to readers here.  The few tutorials I’ve found and liked have been made by people at Deviant Art, but they are only for artistic techniques.  That’s not a bad thing, just not the focus of this blog.

I’m also running low on regular “article” fodder, so I’m opening up suggestions. Still on the plate are:

What is a CMS and WHY do I need it (part II)
Webcomic Website Reviews (one per week, next up is School Spirit.)
Webcomic Host Reviews (ComicDish up next, been lagging on personalizing my site there).

——

Requested Articles:

Conventions (what to bring, what to do, how to advertise, etc!)

When to offer ad space (and how much to charge)

How to format images for Cafepress/other stores

Requested Tutorials:

Making an Eye-Catching Site

Paneling

Making Logos

——-

I am NOT currently taking more applicants for the webcomic website reviews. I am willing to make tutorials on functions in Dreamweaver and Photoshop, CSS/HTML tutorials, as well as tutorials on various artistic techniques (example, lighting at different times of day, etc).  If you have a request, let me know!

Making an eyecatching website! Why not, you’re already covering must-haves and whatnot–you ought to cover what makes a site eyecatching and interesting, outside of the bonus pages?

And because there’s a notable lack of tutorials on this, I suggest you make a tutorial on panelling. There’s more than just ‘three or four squares in a row’ panelling, and not a lot of articles covering them.

There’s a couple articles I’d like to see!

I’m not sure if you’ve covered it yet (I’m currently greedily devouring your archive of articles), but what about a potted comparison of webcomic hosting/softwares?
Say for example – The pros and cons of Drunkduck over the pros and cons of Comicpress?

I always have things in mind until they’re asked directly. D’oh.

Uhh. Make an article about collectives. Unless you did already and I forgot/haven’t read yet.

I do so enjoy everything you’ve written so far.

@Gbeans: already in the works. Check out the “Webcomic Host Reviews” section for pros/cons of Comic Genesis and Drunk Duck. Check out this post: http://warofwinds.com/winged-wolf-studio/what-is-a-cms-and-why-do-i-need-it-part-i/ for info about webcomic software :D

@Sen: Is this the article you’re looking for? http://warofwinds.com/winged-wolf-studio/the-benefits-of-being-part-of-a-webcomic-collectve/
Or are you thinking of specific collectives in particular?

    Hey Kez,

I would love to see some more artistic tutorials, maybe in the light of how to make a good logo for your comic, or the website and/or panel things suggested by Tiana.

  6. Sen

    Belated response!

Oh yeah, I remember that collective article now. I think I meant about specific ones when I made that suggestion.

Also, seconding Beertycoon’s thing about logos. :D

  7. KEZ

@Sen: I am hesitant to review any collectives, since I would first want to be a member there, and such reviews are never really wanted. I will be sticking with reviews of the free hosts only, sorry!

Ah, yes, that makes sense. I thought about that more after commenting, lol.
