The winged wolf appears in no established mythos that I am aware of. Throughout history, wings have been attached to horses (pegasus), lizards (western dragons) and even man (Icarus, or even angels). The wolf is not the kind soul of pegasus, nor the fire-breathing reptile of the dragon, nor does it indulge in the vain activities of Man; it is a creature of strong will and passion, a guardian of the pack, a playful and intelligent beast who long ago befriended humans. The wolf has been a protector and companion through the ages to any who can look at it without fear…or down the barrel of a gun.
I chose this icon for my studio because of what it represents to me: dreams, flight and freedom. The motto of the studio, “Time to Fly” reinforces that image. The winged wolf is not asking you, “time to fly?” He is commanding you. Time. To. Fly.
